Derby Day would not be the same at Morgantown Care and Rehab Center if there wasn’t a celebration. On Saturday, May 2, 2015 the elders and stakeholders at Morgantown Care and Rehab Center held their own “Run for the Roses.” Elders and stakeholders alike participated in a variety of Derby themed events. Earlier in the week the elders made Derby hats, which were worn with pride as the group cheered on each other and their horses in a variety of activities. The day consisted of five races. Three of the races were between stakeholders, where each stakeholder tested their agility in a stick horse race. The other two races were between elders, one at wheelchair level and one “Walk and Roll” race. The crowd cheered with whistles and noise makers as each stakeholder and elder made their way to the finish line. After a day full of racing, the elders and stakeholders held a Derby reception complete with Derby Day cake, ice cream, red roses for participation, and mint julep punch. The day was filled with fun and laughter as Morgantown Care and Rehab Center celebrated Derby Day with a bang!
