October Elder of the Month: Myrtle (Peay) Givens

October 2014 Elder of the Month

typical day for Myrtle (Peay) Givens  starts out with a prayer to the Lord, thanking him for allowing her another day.

Myrtle was born on May 8, 1926.  She grew up here, in Morgantown, with  12 siblings.  She went on to marry the love of her life, Wilma Givens. They were married for 64 years.  They have two children, Charlene and Tim.  The family moved to Indiana for ten years, then moved back to Kentucky to be with family.  Myrtle retired from Peabody Coal Company as a cleaner, she described the job as rewarding.

Her hobbies include: sewing, reading, and being around her five children and seven great grandchildren.  Myrtle is very outgoing and loves to fish!  The quote that means the most to her is, “love thy neighbor as thyself.”  Myrtle’s favorite memories are of when she saw her children for the first time.
