Hawaiian Day – National Nursing Home Week, Day 5

As we wrapped up our celebration of National Nursing Home Week on Friday, May 16th, we had a wonderful day full of fun. There were a lot of people who dressed for today’s theme of “Hawaiian Day.” Stakeholders and elders wore Hawaiian shirts, lays, and grass skirts all day! The Sno-Shack came and brought shaved ice for all our elders and stakeholders and there were quite a few colored lips and mouths after eating the flavored ice. Our big event of the day was our Luau. Here our elders and stakeholders enjoyed BBQ, fresh fruit, and punch. There was Polynesian drumming music and very relaxing Hawaiian music playing all afternoon. We hula-hooped and played limbo and swayed with the music. There were so many smiles and many stuck around long after the food was served just enjoying the fellowship and music.

It has been a wonderful time celebrating National Nursing Home Week and it couldn’t have happened without the dedicated and engaged stakeholders that did so much to make this week very special. A big thanks to Lorna Lee and Helen Phelps and so many others for their work in making this week such a success!
